Prof. Ilan Chet
Hebrew University of Jerusalem
Prof. Ilan Chet completed his doctoral work in microbiology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem's Faculty of Agriculture in Rehovot. He held several administrative positions at the university, the most recent being Vice President for Research and Development.
Prof. Chet served as President of the Weizmann Institute of Science from 2001 to 2006, and was nominated Full Professor in its Department of Biological Chemistry (2005). He has also served as Visiting Professor at renowned universities in the US and Europe, and as consultant to companies and organizations. Recipient of numerous awards and prizes, he has published more than 350 articles in international scientific journals, edited three books in his field, and holds 32 patents.

Dr. Aviv Shaish
Sheba Medical Center
Dr. Aviv Shaish is currently a senior scientist at the Institute of Lipids and Atherosclerosis Research, Sheba Medical Center. Over the last 12 years, Dr. Shaish has been involved in atherosclerosis research and investigated the effects of the algae Dunaliella on the disease. His research has been published in more than 40 papers and chapters in books and he has been awarded numerous grants.
Alain Khaiat, Ph.D
Dr. Alain Khaiat has created his consulting firm SEERS Consulting (www.seersconsulting.com) after serving 10 years as the International Vice President of Research & Development Asia Pacific for JOHNSON & JOHNSON Consumer Divisions, Singapore. Dr. Khaiat is President of the Cosmetic Toiletry and Fragrance Association of Singapore, a Vice President of the ASEAN Cosmetic Association, a member of the ASEAN Cosmetic Scientific Body and an advisor on Cosmetic Safety to the Singapore Health Authorities.
He is also a Senior International Expert on Cosmetics (Post Market Surveillance, Product Safety, Product Efficacy and Quality) with Organizations such as the European Commission, the World Bank and the UN-International Trade Center. Before Johnson & Johnson, he was Executive Vice President of Research & Development at Yves Rocher Cosmetics, and Vice President of International Research & Development at Revlon. Dr. Khaiat won the In Cosmetics Lifetime Achievement Award 2010.
Stanley S. Shapiro, Ph.D
Dr. Shapiro received his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Delaware followed by a post doc in Molecular Biology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He joined Hoffman La-Roche and rose to the position of Distinguished Research Fellow in the Department of Clinical Nutrition. He was responsible for basic research programs in the areas of vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin E , carotenoids and retinoids. That was followed by directing the new Department of Preclinical Dermatology Research in Roche Dermatologics within Hoffman La-Roche. He was promoted to Vice President of Preclinical Research , directing programs in acne, aged/sun damaged skin, psoriasis, cutaneous inflammation and hair promotion. In addition he was responsible for the topical formulation department.
In 1995 Dr. Shapiro joined Johnson & Johnson as World Wide Director, Dermatology Research & Drug Discovery. He had direct line responsibilities for the Preclinical Research and Discovery Department, Toxicology Department, Alternative Testing Department, Dermatopharmacology Department and a basic research center named Skin Biology Technology Resource Center. In 2000, he was promoted to Vice President Research & Development for the newly created Skin Research Center with added responsibilities for Ortho Dermatologics R&D, Analytic and Formulation Groups and the Models and Methods Group. In 2005 as Vice President, Science & Technology Skin Care in a restructured Skin Research Center He had overall leadership of the newly formed Growth Platforms. The areas included but were not limited to acne, photodamage, aged skin, photoprotection and cleansing. These platforms were the core R&D groups to identify and develop new technologies for the worldwide skin franchises and brands. At the end of 2007, after 39 yrs in the Health Care Industry, Dr. Shapiro retired from Johnson & Johnson and established Skinnovations LLC, A consulting company specializing in Skin Care Science and Technology.

Dr. Antonio J. Meléndez-Martínez
Universidad de Sevilla
Dr. Antonio J. Meléndez-Martínez has a PhD in Pharmacy from Universidad de Sevilla (Spain), where he is Associate Professor at the Department of Nutrition and Food Science. He has multidisciplinary training on carotenoids and other dietary compounds acquired at top laboratories at Universidad de Sevilla, University of Liverpool, University of London, and USDA-HNRCA at Tufts University, Boston. He has been a fellow of very competitive international and national research programmes and has published over 70 research papers. He is a frequent invited speaker at international congresses, and has participated in the scientific committees of some of them, having also chaired the international workshops "Carotenoids as Food Ingredients” (Seville, Spain, 2012) and “Panorama of Carotenoid Research in Ibero-America”. (San José de Costa Rica, 2014).
Dr. Meléndez-Martínez has expertise on the coordination of international networks about carotenoids, like the CYTED-funded “Ibero-American network for the study of carotenoids as food ingredients (IBERCAROT)” and the EU H2020-funded COST Action “European network to advance carotenoid research and applications in agro-food and health (EUROCAROTEN)” . He is an elected councilor of the International Carotenoid Society and referees research projects for European and American agencies as well as research papers for more than 30 journals. Currently, he serves in the editorial board of three of them. He has supervised undergraduate, MSc, PhD and postdoctoral students and imparted seminars and courses on carotenoids at different institutions. Some of his awards and achievements are the Extraordinary Prize of Doctorate of Universidad de Sevilla (2006), the Manuel Losada Villasante Award to the Excellence in Agrifood Research (2014) and the International Carotenoid Society George Britton Award for Young Investigators (2014).
